President Shi has started off by centering the goals of this board. “..We committed to work with our communities to transform CPS into a fully resource and just equitable school system. A school system that acknowledges past hard, structural racism, and socioeconomic inequities."
CPS is striving to center student learning, socio-emotional health and wellbeing in everything that we do.
The strategic plan was released last week. It was touched by 14k stakeholders according to the board president. In the coming months the board process will also be changing to monitor the progress of the plan with public transparency.

Roberto Clemente high school is a product of the self determination of Puerto Ricans in Chicago’s Humboldt park. This is a school with a strong organizing background.

CEO Martinez w/transportation updates: - 10k students w/disabilities r on route (this up from 7.2k last yr) - 1283/2200-2500 students left r still waiting to be put on a bus route. - 184 new bus drivers - students r placed w/in 10 days of requests or families r given stipends
The (ISBE) Illinois State Board of Education’s corrective action plan for CPS in regard to transportation closed as of April 2024. However a new complaint around transportation has been made. They are working to get in compliance. chalkbeat.org/chicago/2024/0…

All 700 suggestions made by the CTU have been responded, according to CEO Martinez.

Alrighty, now the meat. There is a new lottery system for public comment with unlimited tickets. 100 people were allowed to submit—of which, 30 will speak.
many will be in response to the 5 yr plan. the first comment is from a union member asking for action in regard to the 880/per pupil budget cut to come from the COVID relief expiring on 9/30.

Parents for CPS Buses are looking for better customer service. It is taking 5wks on average to get on route. We suggest tracking student transfers due to transportation, level of pollution around schools at pick up and drop off, diversity at selective enrollment schools.
Staff and Parents are still unhappy and hoping for the removal of principal Sr. Juan Carlos Zayas at Inter-American Magnet School.
Velma Thomas is a dual language headstart school that doesn’t have a permanent home. Its building has been put up for sale and they are asking the Board to put in an offer.
