Special Assignment: Newsletter Meeting Brief
Remote
[PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING]
We’ve launched a new special assignment for Philly Documenters looking to flex their writing skills or learn more about short-form writing styles. Write meeting briefs for the Philly Documenters monthly email newsletter.
What’s a meeting brief? They’re short paragraphs summarizing the events and outcomes of public meetings. Here is an example of a meeting brief in our newsletter, written by a Documenter! https://mailchi.mp/56861f525e64/philly-documenters-newswire-10331413?e=593dcff046
This is what we’re looking for: Meeting briefs should be no more than 150 words. They will consist of:
- 2-3 main takeaways from the meeting
- Conclusion with an action or follow-up step
- Hyperlinks to any information sources mentioned (agendas, documents, webpages)
Don’t forget to include a Headline that lets readers know what the meeting brief is about. Take a look at news articles to get ideas for how to craft a catchy headline.
Here are the steps for this special assignment:
Step 1: APPLYING. Apply for this assignment as you normally would.
Step 2: ASSIGNING. Two Documenters will be selected to write meeting briefs for the upcoming newsletter.
Step 3: WRITING. You will use the attached Google Doc template to write and submit your meeting brief.
Step 4: SUBMITTING. The meeting briefs will be DUE on Friday, November 1 for review, edits, and feedback. Once you finish your brief, you can let the team know via the Assignment Checklist Form. All you have to do when you fill in the Checklist is fill in the time. You can ignore the other questions.
PAY: We’ll pay for 2 hours of time for a total of $34.00 per meeting brief. If the Philly Docs team asks Documenters to do additional edits, there will be an additional hour of pay at $17/hr.
Thanks for coming along with this program as we expand, and we hope we continue to grow this newsletter submission process as well. Your main audience is Philly Docs, so have fun!
NOTE: We’d like new Documenters to complete at least one note-taking or audio assignment before applying for this special assignment.
